With the ushering in of the New Dawn Government the Ministry was renamed through the Government Gazette Notice No. 1123 of 2021, to embrace the aspiration of the new administration of ensuring there is order and security for all citizens and visitors in the country. In this vein, therefore, it is essential that our website provides a summary of the Ministry’s mandate, functions, and further highlight the departments that support the actualisation of our mandate and constitutional obligations.

The Ministry’s mandate of providing and maintaining internal security plays a pivotal role across all sectors of Government, particularly in unlocking and promoting sustainable socio-economic development for the people of Zambia.

The Ministry has over the years made great strides in achieving its mandate by providing policy guidance that has led to remarkable achievements of order and security in the country. This is the highest office in the organisational structure of the Zambia Correctional Service, followed by two Divisions: The Operations Division and Finance and Administration Division, each headed by a Deputy Commissioner General. The Office of the Commissioner General has the following Units under it:
