Zambia Correctional Service(ZCS) Commissioner General Mr. Fredrick Chilukutu has directed Lubambala Correctional Farm to ensure that land clearing under the World Bank Irrigation Development Support Project (IDSP) is complete before April 2022 to facilitate the commencement of the growing of cash crops.
The Commissioner General lamented that the IDSP project worth over $4m had taken more than 6yrs for all four sites to be actualized owing to some challenges.
The Service Chief said this when he toured Luambala Correctional Farm in Mpika that has 130hectors under the IDSP centre pivot Irrigation system.
Mr. Chilukutu said his vision was to see to it that all the sites under the IDSP were were fully functional by April 2022.
He said the project was bought at a high cost and there was a need for it to be fully actualized for the benefit of the Zambian people.
He thanked the Word Bank and other Cooperating partners for selecting the ZCS as one of the beneficiaries of the IDSP.
The Commissioner General is touring Mechanised Commercial Farms to get a feel of activities being undertaken.
Other IDSP sites include Mukuyu Correctional Farm in Kabwe with 300 ha, Chitwi Correctional Farm in Luanshya with 310ha and Nansanga correctional farm in Serenje with 700ha under centre pivot Irrigation.
