About 30 Teachers and 13 Nurses were deployed in Meheba Refugee Settlement area in Kalumbila district during the 2022 Teacher and Health Professionals recruitment exercise.
Refugee Resettlement officer Castrol Singelengele revealed this in an interview when officers from the Public Relations office at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security visited the Settlement over the weekend.
Mr. Singelengele said the new civil servants are providing services to over 39,147 population of concern in 14 schools and 7 clinics spread across 8 blocks in the Settlement area.
He said of the 14 Schools, one( 1) is a boarding school, two(2) Secondary schools and 1 Day school.
Mr Singelengele also said that Government has removed the aspect of ‘camps’ to beign settlements where the refugees can have access to land.
“The persons of concen now have access to 50 by 50 Settlement land as well as farming land. They are also linked to partners like the Czech Republic in skills development,” he said.
Meanwhile, General Chairman for Persons of concern in the settlement area, Zikingali Puis thanked the Government of the Republic of Zambia for the hospitality and provision all the critical amenities in the area.
He was however, quick to appeal to the Local Authority in the area to expedite the rehabilitation of the road to Maheba that has already been earmarked for works using the recently procured machines under the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
Meheba Refugee Settlement was founded in 1971 for the purpose of hosting Asylum seekers and Refugees.
