A citizen or a foreign national can apply for the first time using a form to obtain a National Registration Card (NRC). The client will be required to complete basic details including full name, parent’s details and address. The completed form should be accompanied by deponent’s NRC Copy and submitted. A passport size picture is then photographed and inserted on the typed card. The client is then asked to verify the passport picture and the details on the card. Types of NRC issued are as follows:-
- Green National Registration Cards
- Pink National Registration Cards to commonwealth nationals
Blue National Registration Cards to aliens or foreign nationals other than the commonwealth.

Birth Registration
- Short description
Birth Registration is the official recording of the birth of a child by an administrative process of the state. It is a permanent and official record of a child’s existence.
- Full Description
A child’s names are recorded on a form including place of birth, where and when the child was born. In addition, the parents’ details are also recorded. The form is then submitted and a Birth certificate is issued. The birth certificate is used to enrol a child in school, college or University, to obtain an NRC, or a passport or indeed to apply for a Visa to stay or work in another country.
Every child born after 14th March 1973 must acquire a birth certificate. These Birth certificates are free of charge in cases of the first issuance. For lost Birth certificates, a fee of K310.00 will be charged. Replacement of Birth certificates for whatever reasons will attract a fee of K220.00.

The informant must be a person with legal authority to give information regarding the birth of a person. Such a person giving notice of birth must be either one of the biological parents, a relative, a legal guardian or a person in charge of the hospital where the birth occurred can give notice in default of parents of the child. Birth registration is compulsory under the laws of Zambia. The birth and death registration act, cap 51 states: the birth of every child born in Zambia shall, without distinction of origin or descent, be registered.

Description

- Short Description
Registration of all people that die in Zambia

The informant is required to complete a form. The names of the deceased and that of the informant are recorded. In addition, the causes of death, the date of death, place of death, age and gender of the deceased are also recorded. The form is then submitted for issuance of a death certificate.

Passports are National Travel Documents with five (5) years expiration period for children due to rapid facial changes and ten (10) years for adults. They are issued in:-

Passports are issued to clients applying for the first time or are renewing. Applicants for Zambian National Travel document are required to come in person to passport and citizenship offices. The applicant must be bona fide Zambian national regardless of status, age or gender in society.
Application for national documents should present themselves at the passport and citizen office, the nearest Zambian mission abroad or the consulate office of the Republic of Zambia in the countries accreditation to complete forms, make payments, be interviewed and submit.

These recommenders include the Ministers of Religion, medical/Legal practitioner, established civil servants, senior bank officials/any Zambian subject of similar standing who has personally acquainted with the applicant for at least two years. Members of the same family with the applicant are not allowed to be recommenders.

Travel Documents of Identity are issued to clients applying for the first time or are renewing. Applicants applying for citizenship will have their records opened or cross-referenced. In addition, circulation of names to Government security agencies for security vetting procedure. Presentation of application to the Citizenship Board of Zambia (quarterly board meetings for determination). Communication or feedback to applicants on the decision of the Board. Successful applicants are informed in writing. Applicants pay the prescribed fee of K10, 000.00 for being granted a certificate of registration for Zambian citizenship.

Applicants complete application forms and their records are cross-referenced before submission to the citizenship office. These application forms are presented to the Citizenship Board of Zambia to make decisions. Communication or feedback to applicants on progress to successful applicants for dual Citizenship is done. Oath of allegiance form is then completed and payment of the prescribed fee of K5000.00 or equivalent for dual Zambian citizenship is made.
